Black Coffee Sack Chair {Adorable}

{DIY Chair Makeover}

If you’ve been nervous about taking on your own DIY project let me make a suggestion: start with a DIY Chair Makeover! They’re easy to paint and it’s really simple to replace the seat cushion. I’ve remade my share of chairs and this is one of my favorites!

I’m a sucker for a cute chair. Someone gave me this chair and I knew it had massive potential; it actually wasn’t too bad to start with.

Lately I’ve been using a variety of different types of paints, depending on what I have on hand. I love me some Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (but I don’t love me the price). Sometimes I opt for my own DIY Chalk Paint. I really like the look of Annie Sloan’s Graphite and decided to try to duplicate it. Being the professional painter that I am – I mixed my own concoction on my washing machine: black paint,  left over dark gray called Coalmine and non-sanded grout.

There are several different DIY chalk paint recipes out there. This is the one I use and it works great for me.

DIY CHALK PAINT RECIPE

1 cup Paint

2 Tbsp Non-sanded Grout

Water

I mix it in a mason jar or a plastic cup. One tip I recently learned was to mix the non-sanded grout in a small amount of hot water before adding it the the paint – this helps dissolve the chunks in your paint. If you don’t it can leave spots of grout on your project!

Again, notice the professionalism of my mixing. I’m actually just to lazy tired to find something better.  I mixed the grout in the lid from my Tide container using a stencil brush; I’m all about what can I grab and use without having to go to another room…lol.

Here is the chair painted with the DIY Chalk Paint:

Then, I lightly distressed it with 60 grit sandpaper;  just along the edges.

The last part of the makeover was the seat cushion. The chair started with this lovely peach fabric.

I discovered the cutest, cheapest way to re-cover a seat cushion. Did you know Dunn Bros Coffee sells their coffee sacks? They are only $1 each – seriously $1!

I simply used a staple gun to staple the fabric to the bottom of the seat – so easy!

I am so happy with how it turned out – YAHOO!

Love you more than $1 fabric,
