Found it on Friday {Thrifty Decor for Boys Room}

{Boys Room Part #2}

My Friday finds this week are found in the locker-room makeover for my boys. If you missed the fist post, click HERE.

 As you know, accessories are the meat and potatoes of making any room work. Accessories can be a HUGE budget buster so, immediately I had to come up with a plan. All I needed were those finishing touches to make the room complete – a few good finds!

{Thrifty Art Work}

Every room needs art (art ain’t cheap) and who wants to spend money on “art” for a boys’ room? Not me. I know I wanted to incorporate some sort of wall art with inspirational words on them, something to do with sports and character. I’ve seen art all over the place using definitions of words and figured it would be perfect for the ‘locker room’.

I started with a 4X8 sheet of hard-board that I found it at Menards for $9.99.

 I asked my hubby to cut out 3 equal squares. After they were cut, I primed them with Kilz Spray Primer and spray painted them with Rust-Oleum Black Canyon.

For the words, I made straight lines with a level and chalk and then used an Elmers White Paint Marker to write them out.

To hang them I simply nailed them to wall because I wanted it to fit the locker room theme.

The words are perfect reminders for boys!  Just because I’m in charge, I added a Scripture to the bottom to help them remember where all good principles come from!

The possibilities for this type of cheap art work are endless – any color, any font, any words – instant “art”.

Here’s an example of Pottery Barn wall art (of course, mine is no Pottery Barn, but just fine for a boys’ room). I love these but, at a whopping $199 they’re not in my budget.

I also put my thrifty skills to work to tie in some ‘sports art’.  I like to stock up on items from Goodwill, just in case,  so I have things on hand when I need them. I had bought these frames for $6.99 each; still brand new and wrapped. I used a piece of card stock for behind the matt and simply bought a sicker (FYI – stickers are cheap) for the middle.

Total cost: $9.00 each!

They’re the perfect fit for in-between the lockers. The cool part is there’s a light in the top piece that is right above the pictures that highlights them perfectly!

P.S. Did you know you can incorporate basketballs, hats and trophies into your ‘decor’? My thought is, why fight it – just embrace the ‘boyness’!

Boys Room Thrifty Wall Art Total: $27.99!

I revealed bits and pieces of the makeover; next week, I’ll show you the entire room!

Love you more than having the boy’s room done!
