I love garage sales, yard sales, barn sales or any other sale of used junk someone is getting rid of. One of the best things about them is finding home accessories; have you been shopping at a furniture store lately? *YIKES* Thank the Lord for HomeGoods, even going discount I can easily blow $100 without blinking an eye.
I’m always on the look-out for accessories I can ‘make my own’. In most cases, what you find won’t match your decor style and is out-dated (hence the garage sale). Garage sale art is my favorite it’s cheap and I can customize it myself!
When you shop garage sales, one of my best tips is to: See it.
When you find something that could work, take a minute to picture it in another color, for another purpose or with added elements to make it work at your house. I bought these prints a couple of years ago, $5 for the pair.

These prints are actually shallow shadow boxes. I added cute scrapbook paper, my daughters initials, and new ribbon to make it something that would match her room. They were cute; but cute isn’t really cutting it anymore.
I’m sort of crazy and have decided to update her room again. It started with a bed switch, which led to a dresser switch, which now requires rearranging the walls. Not only do I need to move the wall items around, but I they require updating as well. YAY – spray paint to the rescue!
Before starting any project I always check around my house for what I need. Besides garage sales, my favorite place to shop is MY HOUSE.If I can re-purpose it, re-paint it or update it too make it work it makes me feel like DIY Wonder Woman!
Ok Sunday, stop dreaming. Back to the prints.
I started the update with this:
First order of business: take it apart and start over!

Next, week I’m hoping to show you the results of what I’m calling: Operation Tween Room!
Here’s a sneak peak:
Speaking of garage sale art, I finished the 4 prints I bought during the Twin Cities Live garage sale segment.

I hung them in my room next to my AWESOME garage sale chair and ottoman!

Love you more than rearranging bedrooms over and over!

[...] Many of the updated touches in the room came from garage sales or were re-purposed accessories I had on hand. To see some of my garage sale finds, check out this earlier post: Garage Sale Art & Other Great Finds. [...]
