Gorgeous Hutch & Desk Makeover {For Mom}

This was a mammoth project, a make over of epic proportions! We transformed a desk, a hutch, a chair, a bookshelf, and a nightstand. WHEW!  This was mom’s Christmas present this year (I know it’s late, but life has been crazy around here).  There was so much to this project that this is my 3rd post and the BIG REVEAL!

In case you missed them you can see the past 2 posts by clicking on the link:

Today is the day I get to reveal my mom's finished Desk & Hutch Makeover!

{Before Hutch  & Desk}

My mom found this 2 piece set at a garage sale for $85. Bless her heart, she attempted to tie the blue into her room by adding a little blue. We've all had our DIY disasters...lol.

This was my first project to finally use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (ASCP). I choose the Off White for the base color and used my own DIY Chalk Paint, in a beautiful shade of green, for an accent color.

In case you are wondering what the big deal is about ASCP, I have found a couple of great posts from other bloggers for you to check out.

Shades of Amber - Chalk Paint Q & A

 Personally, I loved how the paint when on and I love how far I was able to stretch it. They say you don't need to prime using this paint, but I have found that to be false. I have needed to prime most of the pieces I've used the paint on.

 I also used Annie Sloane Wax, both clear and dark.

This is how the desk and the hutch looked after 2 coats of ASCP in Old White.

As much as I love ASCP, I have  a budget to consider. I also make my own DIY Chalk Paint and it works great, it's just not quite as smooth as the ASCP. To see how I make my own chalk paint, click HERE.

I used my DIY Chalk Paint for the green; using it on the drawers and doors.

After getting it all painted, it was time for wax! For instructions on how to apply the clear and the dark wax, check out this guest post from my friend Jerra and her amazing sideboard.

Here is how her beautiful Side-board turned out using ASCP and Wax.

Here's a few close-ups after using the dark wax:

I love how the wax gives it an aged look! To see instructions on how to apply the clear and dark wax, click HERE.

Drum-roll Please! Finally, mom has her Christmas present finished and a gorgeous hutch & desk for her recently redecorated room!

Mom is elated about her hutch and desk makeover! It always makes me happy to put a smile on someone else's face, especially Mom!

Love you more than using ASCP for the first time,

Sunday
