Glazing a piece of furniture can take it from cute to AMAZING. A lot of people are scared to try it, but I’ m telling you its super easy! Today, I’m sharing my cute little table along with a tutorial: How to Glaze Furniture.
I’ve been waiting for months to share this find! Why? This cute little table just happens to have a….CLOVER cut out on the side – how cute is that? I knew I had to wait until St. Patty’s Day to share; wait until you see the color! The best part of this adorable piece was the price – $5!
{Before Table}
This is a perfect opportunity to do a tutorial on how to transform a small piece of furniture, so hear goes!
Step #1: Clean well and Prime. I used Kilz Spray Primer - my BFF.
Step #2: Spray paint with 2 coats Rust-Oleum Leafy Green Spray Paint.

Step #3: Glaze. There are several ways to make glaze; this is my method. Using Valspar Mixing Glaze, mix 4 parts glaze to 1 part paint. I usually mix mine right in a small paint can (you can make glaze in ANY color, I usually use black). One of the best things about glaze is it’s not fussy – I hate fussy! You can add more glaze as you please to thin it out or make it more translucent.
Using a chip brush or foam brush apply glaze. Again, it’s not fussy, add as much or as little as you like depending on how much extra color you want on your piece.
Think Karate Kid – Wipe On / Wipe Off
I keep a dry and a damp rag on hand, use the damp one first to manipulate the glaze and then the dry one to remove any access.
Because glaze is thin and doesn’t dry fast, you can adjust by adding more or wiping off more as you go – just play with it until you get the look you’re going for.
Step #4: Distress – fancy word for ‘sand the edges’ to give it age and character – easy peasy!
Step #5: Wax with Minwax Finishing Wax to protect; simply apply with a lint free rag, wait 15 minutes and buff with a different rag.
One great thing about this side table is the storage underneath – perfect by my chair to hold the essentials – pens and black jelly beans!
The pillow was my inspiration – I just LOVE it! I knew I wanted to pull a color out of it and went with green.
{After Table}
I didn’t even connect the cute clover with the green until after I finished it – LOL.
Random factoid: St. Patrick’s Day isn’t about luck, leprechaun’s or green beer. It’s actually a day to recognize a young missionary named, Patrick, who brought the Gospel to Ireland in 432 and died 29 years later on March 17th. He used the shamrock, the 3 leaf clover, to explain the Trinity – COOL BEANS!
Love you more than McDonald’s Shamrock Shakes!
