My Makin’ in on Monday project for the week was this adorable little bench. I totally lucked out one day and found it at Goodwill on HALF OFF day! *SCORE* I got it for only $35!
{Before Cute Cottage Bench}
The first thing I did was take the seat portion off.
It was adorned with a lovely tapestry type fabric and maroon trim; I couldn’t get it off fast enough!
The seats came off in 2 squares so it was super easy to recover. My new favorite fabric is a Canvas Drop Cloth (used for painting); it’s neutral and has a natural feel. The bonus is it’s CHEAP – this size was only $10.99 and I had a ton left over!
I measured the canvas and hot glued it around the edges. I didn’t staple it (as I normally would) because the board wasn’t very think and I didn’t think folks would appreciate a staple point in the rear!
I love the look of the canvas but it was a tad boring so I decided to add a stencil.
Here’s the finished seat cushion – love how it turned out. I used a white trim to go around the edges.

For the bench, I primed it first with Kilz Spray Primer and then spray painted it with Rust-Oleum Blossom White.
Last, I gave it a little distressing and sealed it with Miniwax Finishing Wax.
{After Cute Cottage Bench}
This little bench was sold in our store Sweet Transformations (pictures taken in store) in less than a day!
Love you more than bright sun shiny days!

I love this bench! Great re-do!!!
Well!! I can’t tell you how surprised I was to see MY bench here! Yes. I have this identical bench. Same fabric and trim and EVERYTHING! ! It cam out of my husband’s grandmother’s house. How strange! It really is a small world. I have it in my studio as we speak – getting ready to paint it. I’ll be using ASCP – haven’t decided on colors or fabric yet!
