I’ve been thinking about adding some color to the inside of my kitchen hutch for a while now. I considered painting it but decided that would be too permenant; same goes for wallpaper. Then, the light bulb went off after seeing this post from one of my favorite blogs: Tatertots & Jello! She used super cute wrapping paper in her cabinet, I decided to go wtih some cute black & cream fabric I had on hand.
Here’s what I started with:
Because I wanted the ability to be able to switch out the fabric, I decided to attach it to the cardboard, that way I can take it out of the hutch when I want a change. I measured the space, cut the cardboard and added the fabric.
Due to the width of my fabric I had to cut 3 pieces to go across the entire length of the cardboard. I spayed the cardboard with Elmers Spray Adhesive and laid my fabric out (giving myself enough extra fabric to wrap it around). Using my trusty BFF hot glue gun, I glued the fabric onto the back making sure to pull the fabric tight.
As you can see, the cardboard piece isn’t perfect. *SIGH* One end is a bit smaller; I can’t cut a straight line to save my life! Once it’s in there no one will noitce (and I’m trusting you not to tell)! I made 2 covered pieces since I have 2 shelves and put them inside.
Last was the fun part, adding all my pieces back in!
I love how it turned out! I took me less than 2 hours and added just a little ”something special”. The best part is, I can easily
take the cardboard pieces out later to change it up!

Hi, I'm Sunday and yes, that's my name! I love DIY projects and the thrill of making something great-for cheap. I'm here to share tips for the DIY'er at heart from a wife, mom, and pastor. What do you do with your Sunday Afternoon?

It looks great!! Adds an entirely new dimension with the fabric – great idea!!
Looks fabulous and what a great idea!!! :)
P.s. I also love that you put a link to what the Elmer’s spray adhesive is/looks like, sometimes people don’t want to try hunting in a store for a product and how convenient to link it right up with amazon! :)
You guys did a great job spending your time to create this article! If I had to explain my emotions about your website in only one word ? it would be WOW! Thank you! P.S. Subscribed for updates!

Looks great. It sets off your accessories so very nicely. Try sheetrock small pieces availabe at Home depot or one of the bigbox stores and try a stapler. Makes a great Bulletin board too. Tuck it in a frame if you want. I have also upholstered ceiling tiles for an accent area in ceiling. Check for flame spread on the fabric for this application.
Go girls!! Have fun.
Great idea, I would have never thought to use sheetrock! Thank you!
Your so right it jus added alot and you make it look so doable!!
