My Favorite Makeover {A Card Catalog}

I’ve finished quite a few projects around here and of course, I have my favorites. I recently finished something that’s now at the top of my list. I’d had my eyes peeled for a card catalog for quite some time and finally found one for $7 – yes, you read that right 7 bucks! I could have squealed I was so excited, but I restrained myself being I was in public and all. Maybe you are like my husband and thinking, what in the world is a card catalog? I’d seen several amazing makeovers on other blogs and that’s where my, I must have one feeling, came from.

{DIY Card Catalog Make-overs}

This beauty was done by Lauren at West Furniture Revival.

Erin at DIY On the Cheap re-stained this one and it turned out gorgeous.

Laura at Oakland Avenue found this one and gave it a beautiful black make-over.

 Adri at Dream Book Design turned her card catalog into a stunning buffet.

Follow each link to see how these lovely ladies made-over their card catalogs!

Finally, I get to show mine. Unfortunately, (don’t ask me why), I don’t have pictures of this process…ugh. I love a good before and after picture and I just don’t have one in this case. I found this card catalog at a local thrift store for $7 – SCORE!

{My DIY Card Catalog}

I found this picture and it’s very similar to how my card catalog looked before the make-over:

Here are the basic steps I used to make it over:

Step #1: The top was is removable so I took it off, stripped it and re-stained it.

Step #2: I removed the hardware from the drawers, primed (Kilz Spray Primer), and then painted (Dutch Boy Dura Clean in White Oak & Black) them.

Step #3: Using a black glaze, I glazed the drawers and the rest of the cabinet.

Step #4: I added casters to the bottom.

I now have a lovely card catalog turned coffee table and I’m in LOVE!

It makes a perfect coffee table!

I have to say, this piece makes me SMILE and is defiantly one of my favorite DIY projects!

What do yo think?

Love you more than finding a steal for something I love,

Sunday

  7. I LOVE the idea of making your card catalog into a coffee table! I found one this summer also, for $5, but it’s smaller than yours and yes, I was squealing like a crazy woman (on the inside). I haven’t done anything with it yet and may not this year.

What an absolutely a great idea to make it in to a coffee table, my mind instantly went to all the great things you can store in there. It looks so pretty now and love the two toned look. 10. Just to let you know you’ve been featured today at Sunday’s Best, congrats. I wanted to let you know your project images on your site are really large over 1,000, being self hosted this put a huge “draw” on your resources. If you want I’d be more than happy to share with you on how to resize and not put a strain which will save your resources and have your blog load faster.

  11. This is beautiful!! I am so with you on the desire for certain pieces coming from seeing them all over blog land!! These card catalogs are amazing! $7 icing on the cake!
