Guest Feature: Gorgeous Sideboard {How to Use Annie Sloan Wax}

Meet my friend, Jerra – she is one talented girl! I’ve featured her before with her adorable Saloon Door Project. She has moved past DIY and home projects to selling her amazing pieces in a cute shop.

  Nic Nac Paddywac’s, Anoka MN

I just had to have her back to show-off her seriously GORGEOUS sideboard. The great thing is, if you follow this step-by-step tutorial you can achieve the same look too!

{Sideboard Tutorial}

Before Sideboard

Step #1: Clean your piece of furniture well.

Step #2: Stain the top using Minwax Stain in Dark Cherry.

Step #3: Remove doors and drawers to paint.

 TIP: Removing hardware, drawers, and doors will allow you to have a better looking painted project. If you paint the hardware on the piece you’ll have drips and you will in essence seal it on the piece – which does not look professional.

Step #3: Paint all your pieces and allow to completely dry before putting it back together.

Jerra used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Off White and French Linen.

Step #4: Wax entire piece using Annie Sloan Soft Wax.

 Apply wax with either a rag or brush (a small brush works well to for getting into the nooks and crannies) by first dipping it in the wax and then applying to your piece.

TIP: Wax is a great way to seal and protect furniture. You can ONLY use Annie Sloan Soft Wax over ASCP – if you try to use any type of wax, it will remove the paint. (Ask me how I know…grrrrrr.)

 Step #5: Using sandpaper, lightly distress the edges and places that give a worn look.

For a tutorial on how to distress, click HERE.

Step #6: Detail areas you want to highlight with a different color paint. In this case, Jerra used the Old White over the French Linen and it really pops!

Step #7:  To give even more of an aged look, use Annie Sloan Wax in dark.

TIP: While working with the wax, make sure you have already waxed the piece with the clear, THEN sparingly use the dark wax in the corners and over spots that you want that aged look.
