I love a piece with potential, one that requires some tender loving care and this farmhouse dresser fit the bill. It was given to me (what a blessing) however, it came in pieces. Several of the drawers and the dresser itself were either already or partly coming apart.
Hubby and Elmers Wood Glue to the rescue!
Just like the knight in shining armor that he is, he immediately said, “I can fix that!” He glued her right up good as new, love this man! (Too bad he didn’t wait for me to get pictures – BOO)
{Before Farmhouse Dresser}
The stain on the drawers was chipping away so I knew I’d need to sand them down and re-stain them.
The top was in pretty rough shape also.
I love the look of 2-toned furniture. Usually I go with the stained top and paint the rest; however this time I decided to switch it up and paint the dresser and re-stain the drawers – LOVE.
First, I sanded down the drawers and re-stained them with Minwax Wood Sheen in Rosewood; it’s like magic, it dries in one hour!
Second, using my DIY Chalk Paint recipe, I painted the dresser with a mis-tint I had on hand called Ostrich Feather. One really nice thing about chalk paint is that it distresses well, which I also did on this piece.
Last, I spray painted the hardware with Rust-Oleum Black Enamel Spray Paint. I usually try to stay with the original look of the hardware, but this time they were too rusted to use.
{After Farmhouse Dresser}
Shucks – I would use this baby in a second if I had room! It would make a beautiful buffet or sideboard for storage.
Have you rescued a piece in need of tender loving care lately? I’d LOVE to see it!
Love you more than another finished project that makes me smile,
Sunday
