Word for your Wednesday

{Overflowing}

Have you ever left the water in the kitchen sink running and had it overflow into the cupboard underneath, even through the floor to the lower level? Had the water completely destroy the cupboard? Make water marks on the ceiling below?

Me neither.

Have your kids ever put toys in the toilet or a entire roll of paper towel to the point where the toilet overflows everywhere? Has your toilet ever been overflowing and you don’t know how to turn the water off?

Me neither.

Usually the thought of overflowing doesn’t bring happy thoughts.  However, that could be because of the way you are looking at it; similar to the analogy of the glass being half empty or half full. Depending on how you look at it, overflowing, could be a bad thing, or possibly a good thing. I know that your thinking, what could possibly be good about something overflowing? Glad, you asked.

I found this great graphic this week made by Erin at Cap Creations (check out her blog you’ll love it) and it got me thinking.

Here in Romans, Paul is praying that the church would OVERFLOW with hope (btw- we are the church).

For, me it helps to picture what I’m reading. After reading this verse I pictured myself as a big cup – more like a really cute coffee mug from Anthro. Next, I pictured the Holy Spirit standing over me and filling me up with hope – so much hope that it overflowed. That is GREAT NEWS. I can have so much hope, be so full, literally overflow with it – that there’s no room left for fear, depression, anxiety – only room for HOPE.

{Hope is the expectation that something good is going to happen.}

I’m telling the truth when I say even though I am in the middle of a battle for my health, I have the expectation that something good is happening. Another verse I love is in 1 Thessalonians 4:13 in short says, “…we are not those without hope…”  We always have HOPE.

Yes, I’ve been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Yes, I had a double mastectomy and lymph node dissection. Yes, I will be starting chemo soon. No, I’m not afraid. No, I’m not going to die. No, I’m not going to allow a ‘diagnosis’  to rule my life.  (If you missed it click HERE to read the story)

Why? I have HOPE. Here’s my hope face:

Thank you Jesus.

No matter what situation you are facing, if you put your trust in the Lord, you have HOPE.

Love you more than having a happy hope face,

Sunday

  1. Faith, HOPE, and Love. Talk about the Avengers, these are the real crime fighters! You are indeed my Super Hero Sunday!

  2. HOPE … it’s one of my absolutely favorite words.

    This post is an awesome illustration of Romans 5:5 … And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts but the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

    You’re certainly an adorable coffee mug overflowing with love & hope. There’s no room for disappointment to settle in. What a spectacular example you are as you radiate truth.
