{Radiate}
My husband and I have wrestled with a big decision over the past few weeks. We had to decide if I would go through radiation as the last piece of my treatment for breast cancer. After praying about it and getting 2 different opinions, we’ve decided to go ahead with it. I will have radiation starting in mid-October for about 6 weeks; everyday Monday-Friday. The biggest drawback for me is the interruption everyday for the appointment and the fact that this will push of the 2nd phase of my reconstruction until next May.
None-the-less, I am so thankful for the wisdom God has given the medical community and am willing to take another step to make sure cancer never rears its ugly head in my life or the life of my kids.
The definition of radiate is: to give off heat or light. I was picturing the radiation going into my body as a ray of light and then a thought hit me: I’m supposed to RADIATE.
What exactly can I radiate? I can radiate God to the world.
Matthew 5:14-16 (MSG) “Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.”
You don’t need a soap-box, a theology degree, or even a title to be a light in a dark world. Just be you! Be the you God created with the gifts and talents He blessed you with. You don’t have to ‘preach’ to anyone, just RADIATE Him, by allowing Him to shine through you.
I like to think of it like this: radiation is light going into me. God is the opposite, His radiation is light going out of me. When we love those around us, when we simply live our lives for Him – others will see the light. Without even trying we can RADIATE Him; now that is the kind of radiation everyone can benefit from!
Come on, sing it with me: ‘This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine, this little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine. This little light of mine I’m gonna let it shine; let it shine, let it shine, let it shine”
Love you more than knowing I’m kicking cancers’ butt yet another way,
