Vintage Venetian Carnival Papier Mache Bauta Mask sold Mardi Gras Vintage 1990's Venetian Carnival Bauta Mask. Hand made Papier Mache. There are some cracks, and chips, see photos. One of the oldest Venetian mask designs, the Bauta has been used historically to hide class, economic status and gender, allowing those who wore it to engage freely with each other when societal and political demands made it impossible to do so. As seen in the film Eyes Wide Shut, the Bauta mask is still as popular now during Carnival as it was hundreds of years ago. Measures 14” wide x 8” tall approx. handmade in Italy by artisans.
