This unique natural rudraksha and gemstone mala is comprised of 108 (6mm) beads – primarily mookaite jasper with accent beads of rudraksha and faceted natural howlite. The meru setting is a juniper berry 'ghost bead' followed by a 14mm rudraksha seed. The mala is hand-knotted between each bead for longevity and ease of use on double-strung muted red/lavender-colored 100% cotton cord. The handcrafted tassel is created of the same cord the beads are strung with. This attractive mala features antique copper pewter spacers at the focal points where howlite transitions to mookaite. Mookaite jasper, with its natural colors of purple, pink, yellow, and cream, is stunning in its variety and aesthetic. The natural howlite compliments the tones of the mookaite and the rudraksha provides a stunning contrast.
The length is approximately 18 inches (46 cm) from center to tip of tassel and the meru bead rests at or near the solar plexus when worn.
All Devi Malas are handcrafted by myself, Milwaukee designer Jackie Ratcliffe. Gemstone and rudraksha combinations are selected based on the design of the piece more than for the particular healing properties they hold. All Devi Malas are "Gayatri-infused" as I recite this Sanskrit mantra of purification during the mala's creation.

Mookaite jasper is a stone of the “here and now.” It is a guide in making decisions and reaching the correct conclusion. Rudraksha seed, known as “tears of Lord Shiva”, is a symbol of spirituality and has traditionally been used by meditators and sages of India for thousands of years. The five-faced rudraksha is said to promote health, specifically regulating blood pressure, reduce heart disease, and improve mental clarity. Rudraksha are known to promote inner peace, knowledge, and enlightenment. This powerful seed is said to represent the meditative ability of Shiva to focus the mind and remove obstacles on sold one's path.
Howlite is considered an excellent calming stone. Howlite is said to decrease a critical state of mind, selfishness, stress, and anxiety, bringing relaxation and a sense of peace. Howlite stills the mind and is excellent for meditation or sleep. Howlite can also lessen anger originating from within or externally and eases confrontations. This calming stone is known to relieve insomnia, particularly when cause by an overactive mind.
‘Ghost Beads' are dried juniper berries used by Navajo and other tribes in the making of necklaces. They are thought to represent an interconnection of the earth, trees, animals, and humans and they bring peace, harmony and safety to the wearer. They are a southwest tradition to protect one from evil spirits, ghosts, and nightmares. Traditionally, Ghost Beads are hung by babies' and young children's beds to aid in keeping away bad dreams.
