This cup was made on the potter's wheel. While the piece was still wet, it was faceted by slicing away at the side walls. After firing it once, the inside of the cup was glazed with a food safe, durable matte glaze with a color variation from black to gold.
The outside of the cup was layered with a crackle glaze and sprayed in hues of green and rust, the goal being, to emulate the surface of reduction fired shino within the constraints of an oxidation kiln.

Intense sanding was done to ensure that the cup is smooth to touch and pleasing to drink out of.

The undulating lip, the surface marks, the hand carved foot and the earth tone palette gives this one of a kind tea bowl, a rather rustic and aged look. And being dishwasher safe, it is great for everyday use.
