Muffs were a very popular fashion accessory in the last three decades of the 18th century. This silk taffeta rectangular muff sold reflects the size, shape, and materials most fashionable during the 1770s. The crisp white silk taffeta fabric contrasted with three colorful bows are materials and colorways very widely seen across this decade. This item is appropriate for use in reenacting or in museum settings.
This muff includes the silk taffeta muff cover and a separate ivory linen pillow that is generously stuffed with wool stuffing. The cover can be exchanged for others over the same pillow base to make this a highly versatile accessory that can be easily and economically coordinated to any outfit.
The muff's trimming design is 100% accurate to the years surrounding the Revolutionary War (1770-1785). Its rectangular shape (it is approx. 10" long) replicates the size and shape of muffs seen in period prints and portraits and in surviving examples from the 1770s, and its trim is consistent with popular clothing and accessory trimmings commonly used on women's garments and other accessories throughout this period. Both the muff cover and the linen pillow have been sewn entirely by hand to guarantee you the most accurate accessory possible.
