Antique sold 1800's Reinforced Wax Doll with Shut Eyes & Porcelain Teeth Antique Victorian Wax Doll 25" Tall
This antique Victorian doll is, I believe, reinforced wax head & shoulders on a saw dust body with a real hair wig glued in place. She has lovely brown eyes that open & close with curly lashes, painted on brows, pink lips & tiny porcelain teeth. Her hair is beautifully curled & pinned in place with celluloid hair pins. She is wearing her original bronze velvet gown which is a 2 piece, dropped-shoulder bodice trimmed in tiny pink & blue silk flowers & a matching trained skirt with a bustle. She wears knee length knickers & a petticoat made from bleached muslin & trimmed with lace. She is missing her arms & legs & someone has lately added a left leg that is moulded plastic with a little kid shoe. The wax is crazed, particularly on the shoulders, showing age darkening & surface scratches. The bottom of her nose looks a little squished is you examine her closely. I cannot sold find any maker's marks without damaging her bodice. Her hair needs smoothing & the middle lashes of her right eye are missing. I wish I knew more about her history, but she has a peaceful expression on her sweet face. There is a little sawdust leaking when you move her about, but I don't see any tears. Her skirt is straight pinned at the waist. PLEASE NOTE THAT I CAN SHIP UPS IF YOU PREFER. I am happy to send more photos as well.
