Large sold Glass Compote Bowtie Thompson Glass Works Antique Lovely antique compote by Thompson Glass Works from the 1890's. The compote has thick glass with petal shaped scallops. The petals form a bowtie with a center medallion. The pattern number is 18 "Bowtie." The glass is about 1/4 inch thick and weighs approximately 6 3/4 pounds. Measures about 10 1/4 inches tall and 10 inches wide at the top, the base is 6 inches across The Thompson Glass Works produced some beautiful and popular glassware in Uniontown Pennsylvania for a relatively short number of years, (1889-1895). It was constructed during the natural gas fever in 1889 at a cost of $100,000. During those seven years, the company had gone through several failures and reorganizations. It has bubbles, inclusions and straw marks common to this era of glassware. I can find no chips or cracks at all.
