1882 A Kiss - Old New York - Large Rare Antique Colour Lithograph Print - sold Boughton - Winter Scene - Costume
A stunning colour lithograph antique print from 1882 (date shown at bottom) of a Man Kissing a Woman. There's romance in the air! The title is New Year-s Day in Old New York and people are dressed to the hilt. Note the woman in the background, far right, holding a snowball behind her back. Ahh, there's also mischief afoot.
This is from the picture by G. H. Boughton A.R.A.. Boughton was an Anglo-American landscape and genre painter. He imagined this scene in the New York of Old, around 1675, just after the British took over from the Dutch. Hence the fancy Dutch ruffs!
This print sold was in the special 1882 Christmas Number of The Graphic, as a premium for readers at Christmas. There is printing en verso. The Graphic was a British weekly illustrated newspaper with immense influence on the art world. Vincent van Gogh was a particular fan.
In very good condition. No creases, scuffs, or bends.
Size of image: approx. 8.5 inches x 12 inches (approx. 22 cm. x 30.5 cm)
This is an original from 1882, not a reproduction! Bananastrudel sells only originals. The Bananastrudel watermark does not appear on the print.
