Peridot is one of the few gemstones that occur in only one color: green. The intensity and tint of the green depends on the percentage of iron that is contained in the crystal structure, so the color of individual Peridot gems can vary from yellow, to olive, to brownish-green.

The August birthstone symbolizes strength. It is sometimes called the evening emerald for it's light green color. It was once believed that the green Peridot crystals found in volcanic ashes were the tears of the volcano goddess, Pele. Care

Peridot can be cleaned with most any commercial jewelry cleaner or plain soap and water using a soft brush. Be sure to rinse and dry your jewelry thoroughly after cleaning.
