Large Antique Silver Bhumiya sold Raj Hindu Amulet

Since the beginning, cultures around the world have had the desire to posses a tangible and personal form of worship, and these plaque style amulets reflect that desire. These particular amulets come from the Indian states of Rajasthan and Gujarat and were made from the late 19th to early 20th centuries (making the newest pieces around 75 years old).

This pendant features the Bhumiya Raj. Known as "the hero" and "ghost king", is said to have been either a military leader or chief who died while defending his property and local village. Never based on any particular person that actually lived, each village has it's own specific Bhumiya Raj who is always male. It is still believed that Bhumiya Raj still rides around their village at night dispelling evil spirits. The amulet was and cut and stamped in a dwelling shape.

This pendant is made of of good coin silver (a traditional mixture of silver and other metals) and polishes very nicely. It has been stamped on a thick sheet of coin silver. The bail is in good antique condition. At one time it was repaired by tightly folding over the two ends. Don't let that fact deter you, I wear many amulets that have repaired bails and can personally attest to their strength and endurance.

It measures 49mm from top to bottom and 40mm at the widest point.

This piece is indeed antique and it's condition reflects that. Worn edges and weathering are a product of time and use...not defects.
