During the twentieth and twenty first century The Libbey Glass Company was one of the largest glass producers in the U.S. William Libbey of the New England Glass Company founded the company in 1818 which would later become The Libbey Glass Company in Ohio. William's Libbey's son, Edward Drummond Libbey moved his glass manufacturing business from East Cambridge, Massachusetts to Toledo, Ohio in 1888 producing containers, bottles, and window glass.

In 1892 the name was changed to The Libbey Glass Company. His employees discovered how to use natural gas resources and high quality sand deposits to produce the glass. An inventor from Newark, Ohio named Michael Owens joined the firm making the Libbey company even more profitable by lowering manufacturing costs due to the increased productivity. Ironically the work force was decreased due to the machinery that automatically produced tumblers, bottles, and glass. Toledo became known as the glass capital of the world in the early 1900's and the creation of the automobile industry, Libbey started to produce windshields.

They were known as the largest manufacturers of dinnerware in the U.S. in 2004 having plants in the Netherlands, California, & Louisiana. Libbey made the first one press and blow stemware September 29th of 1970, developed the largest machine made stemware in the world in 1975, created the marbelique glassware process in 1989, partnered with Syracuse, China and had the first computer sold controlled blowing machine for stemware in 1995. Bud Light glassware featuring Spud Mckenzie was launched in a local downtown Toledo event and had the first tableware computer simulation for hot glass process in 1996. On September of 1997, Libbey acquired the World tableware by adding flatware and hollowware to expand their product line.

Libbey introduced a partnership with Royal Leerdam in 2002 and purchased Crisal based in Portugal in 2005. In 2006 Libbey would take full ownership of Crisa and would continue their glassmaking in Monterey Mexico. Libbey opened a showroom on 41 Madison Avenue in New York and was part of the tv show "Extreme Makeover-Home Edition" in 2008 to help re-haul the entire residence on this show episode. "Just Mini Desserts" was the first recipe book written by their creative Director, Robert Zollweg from Libbey in 2010. In 2011 Libbey rung the closing bell on the New York Stock Exchange. Libbey's net sales totaled a whopping $781.8 million dollars and they continue today to supply a vast majority of tabletop products to retail, food service and customers all over the World!

This Libbey set of Holly Berry & Ribbons gold trim coffee mugs will be a wonderful add to your decorative Christmas holiday dinner table!
