ABOUT LIBYAN DESERT GLASS
Also known as Libyan Gold Tektite or Great Sand Sea Glass, this naturally formed material is thought to have been created about 26 million years ago. Collected over a wide area ranging from the sandy strewn-areas of the eastern Sahara, western Egypt to the deserts of eastern Libya, this material has become increasingly difficult to obtain.
The origins of this beautiful and powerful material may be the result of a meteoric impact or atmospheric explosion. The strewn-field of Libyan Desert Glass covers 6500 square kilometers between the Great Sand Sea near the Koufra Oasis in southwest Egypt and the N'Giffel-Khabir-Plateau (Gilf Kebir) close to the Egypt-Libyan border. Long debated whether this it is a tektite or an impact glass, research at the Boston University Center for Remote Sensing revealed through satellite imagery in 2006/07 evidence of an enormous impact crater.
Prized as both a tool by ancient people and as a material for adornment, Libyan Desert Glass ranges in clarity from opaque to translucent, and in color from yellow to yellow-green. Scarab beetles carved from Libyan Desert Glass were found in the tomb of King Tutankhamen.
Libyan Desert Glass is a powerful manifestation tool and can also be used for grounding and protection. There is a vitalizing energy contained in the material that strengthens our own energy field, stimulating will-power and enhancing creativity. The powerful spiritual energy of the Golden Ray is embodied within Libyan Desert Glass and aids in connecting with your highest self.
ABOUT MOLDAVITE
This singular, bottle green gemstone could well be called ‘The Transformer'! Highly valued for millennia as a powerful talisman for good fortune and protection, moldavites are amazing.
Vltavin, the Czech name for moldavite, is classified as a tektite or group of naturally formed impact glass. Moldavites are comprised of amorphous crystals with a hardness in the range of 5.5 to 6. Widely thought to be born 14.8 million years ago from a meteoric collision with the clay and pebbly sands of what is now known as the Bohemian Plateau, the impact is thought to have created an explosion of such magnitude that the collision blasted vaporized material high into the atmosphere where the newly formed gaseous material cooled upon descent, transforming into a green glass raining down to earth, only to be captured over the centuries by layers of sediment. Changing character and personality depending on this rare stone's dance with light, the appearance of moldavites are individual and varied, defined by the stone's unevenness, cavities, bumps and grooves. Tektites are rare, and found in but a few locations throughout the world. Moldavites originate only from the Czech region and are regulated.
