This sword brooch is inspired by Orcrist, Thorin's sword from the Hobbit movies. It was also inspired by the beautiful Edwardian era sword brooches at the antique jewellery shop where I work. I really wanted to make a beautiful brooch that was still nerdy and fun. When I carved the hilt I tried to put as much detail into it as I could, I even carved the notches into it. This brooch pin will look amazing on a coat or top as everyday where, hold a scarf pinned around your neck or dress up an outfit. It is also a great way to have your characters weapon represented on a cosplay without having to carry around a big sword prop. When pinned properly on fabric the pin disappears and you have the awesome illusion of a tiny full length sword
So far there are five swords in this series, with plans for more. Check out my etsy store to see Glamdring, Sting, Anduril and Hadhafang.
This sold brooch has been hand carved from wax and then cast in solid sterling silver by the lost wax casting process. Then it was cleaned up and the pin attached. The pin pressure fits into the tube on the back of the sword point so you won't get caught by the sharp pin. The sword point is attached to the hilt by a chain, so you'll never lose it. The brooch has a flat back so it can sit well on clothing, but there is as much detail as I can fit on the front side. Orcrist is 7.8cm long and 5.8cm wide at the crossguard.
