Woodland Witch is a traditionalist. She likes solitude, the vast expanses, and the massive forests, but she is however a good witch. If you go the distance to look her up, and if your cause is worthy, you can rely on her assistance.
Woodland Witch is the first linocut in a series of antique science illustration plate inspired prints. Later on she will be accompanied by Urban Witch and Selkie among others.
As per a typical antique science plate Woodland Witch is portrayed with an indication of her proper habitat, and with her most essential tools and symbols surrounding her.
Among these you will find rune-stones for divination, a portable cauldron for on sight brewing and foraging, ceremonial knife and wand, the life circle (symbolised by the egg and the dead bird), plants from a medieval herbarium, her familiar along with other animals, and many many more teeny tiny details.
Woodland Witch was carved in grey lino using traditional tools, and printed on an etching press, with Cranfield ink on beautiful handmade Awagami Okawara (white) and Kitakata (natural) paper respectively. Both are Japanese papers, but Kitakata shows a bit more detail than Okawara, whereas Okawara has more visual contrast than the natural colour.
It has deckled edges, and is numbered and signed by the artist. Limited edition of 100. All materials used (including the tissue paper I wrap in when shipping) is of archival quality, and with the proper care this linocut can live for centuries to come.
