It looks to be a piece that had been repaired (soldered) from the back of which you don't see. It looks Beautiful Otherwise. I will have this as discounted piece, but it is still a lovely brooch. The Brooch measures 2 1/4"inches long x 2 inches wide. This brooch could be worn on a lapel, coat, placed on a purse. Lots of different uses really. I love old brooches.
