History Boldoot:
Jacobus Cornelis Boldoot (1766-1838) started a pharmacy on 1 May 1789 at Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 46. [1] There he sold all kinds of powders, ointments and a self-developed alcohol-based medicine. In 1823 his nephew Jacobus Cornelis Boldoot (1809-1876) was apprenticed. Around 1865 the production was moved to Singel 92 and 94.
In 1871 Joannes Jacobus Boldoot (1850-1898) joined the firm, which was declared an adult by Royal Decree at the age of 21. Eau de cologne was also used in soap from 1876. Boldoot became purveyor to the court of five courts: the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, sold Portugal and Italy. Boldoot was one of the first companies with telephone, namely in 1881. In 1882 there was a gas engine, with which the company was also at the forefront. After the death of J.J. Boldoot, the company was converted into a public limited company due to the lack of a successor.
