Handmade by Carl Ford. This hollow form vessel was turned out of walnut wood harvested near my house in NY state. This is one of my bigger pieces with a really nice rim. When I say bigger, everything is relative. It is 7-1/2" in diameter and 8" tall. So it will still fit on most shelves. It will also look great on sold a side table or coffee table with out hogging up the entire table. The clear finish is multiple coats of semi gloss polyurethane buffed to a baby bottom smooth finish.
The raw log I turned this piece out of was special because it had lots of white sap wood surrounding the chocolate brown heart wood. I really love the wavy white to brown transition just below the rim on this piece.
This piece was turned with the center of the log (the pith) centered in the bottom. It as a couple of wind splits (cracks) radiating out from the pith. When a tree sways in the wind these often happen. Thus they are a natural part of the tree. Not a defect. They are clearly visible in the photo of the bottom. Please do not purchase this piece, if you have a problem with the cracks.
I sell high quality items on Etsy at low prices!
