Here comes a cute old smiling wooden Elephant on eccentric wheels, made in the 1960s in Germany by HABA as the mark on its forehead shows (read more about the famous toy maker below).
Our old Elephant here is 14 cm / 5 ½ inches long (without tail), 13 cm / 5 inches tall & 10 cm / 4 inches wide (with wheels).

Old pull toy Elephant was clearly loved and played with, there are slight signs of age only on the edges of the wood, but the overall condition is excellent! As you can see vintage Elephant still has his leather tail, his original cord and bar on the end of it, the red plastic saddle is still there, the eccentric wheels work without any flaw, his ears can be turned and he is fine and smiling. Our elephant is very definitely of the 60s breed, for he still shows his "Angel" logo as well as the stamps of the firm underneath.

The Habermaaß GmbH ("HABA") is a family-owned (and controlled) company still operating
from the small town of Bad Rodach in Franconia/Bavaria. It entertains several international subsidiaries by now and is a leading supplier of children's toys, with a broad product portfolio ranging from wooden and textile toys, tabletop games, to decorating ideas and accessories.

Seeking their fortunes on the by then booming German toy market, Eugen Habermaass and Anton Engel found the "Habermaß & Co. Fabrik für Feinholzprodukte" (Factory for fine wooden products) in 1938; although Engel left the enterprise soon after, he remained in the company's logo depicting an angel (germ. "Engel") till 1971.
Very soon forced by the outbreak of WW II to shift the company's production to army supplies, "HABA" however re - launched business in 1946 with a wide variety of wooden children's toys, namely building bricks, cars and painted pull toy farm animals.
Eugen Habermass' only son Klaus was originally supposed, obliged even by rural Bavarian tradition, to take over the business, but when the father died in 1955, Klaus was a quite wayward teenager of 16, so the mother Luise led both, family and firm, through quite complicated times.
Finally, in 1961, Klaus Habermass had finished both an apprenticeship in cabinetmaking and bookkeeping and now wanted to go to the Congo; his mother convinced him to take on an active role in the company, instead. So he did not go to the Congo; however, one of the first novel designs quite successfully entering the portfolio soon was a cute, simplistic pull toy elephant on eccentric wheels; it turned out, like Klaus Habermass himself, being a cornerstone of Haba's enduring success until today.
