Christian Johannes van der Hoeff | Royal sold Sphinx Pottery art-deco geometric panel rimmed soup bowl.
Antique (1909-1919) hand-painted rimmed soup or salad bowl designed by Christian van der Hoeff and made by The Royal Sphinx Pottery in Holland.
This wonderful hand-painted bowl, produced during the art-nouveau period, featires a geometric design more of the coming art-deco movement with its green dot-and-dash pattern and inset green pen lines set against a white ground.
In FAIR! antique condition, there are two VERY WEE! nicks to one edge and browning about them. There is a hairline crack to the REVERSE! of the bowl with some browning through it and there are VERY LIGHT! spots of browning to the inside bowl base. The art-deco geometric pattern shows a LIGHT! scratches and wear and the bowl shows MILD! crazing (please review each of the posted photos for a complete visual of the item).
Impressed Royal Sphinx Pottery mark of the period to reverse, as well as the impressed decorator's initials.
Approximate measurements: 8-1/2" in diameter (measured edge to edge across the front of the bowl) with a depth of 1" (NOT including the rim in this depth measurement), a 3/4" rim and smooth edge.
