Joseph Hansen (July 19, 1923 – November 24, 2004) was an American crime writer and poet. Although he published dozens of books in a wide variety of genres, Hansen is best remembered for his ground-breaking series of crime novels featuring Dave Brandstetter, an openly gay insurance investigator who still embodied the tough, no-nonsense personality of the classic hardboiled private investigator protagonist. At the beginning of his career as a novelist, Hansen wrote under the pseudonym James Colton (or Coulton), and also wrote two Gothic novels under the pseudonym Rose Brock. Hansen won the 1992 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Private Eye Writers of America, as well as two Lambda Literary Awards.

Special Note: This book is from the personal collection of Charles "Charlie" Brown. Charles Nikki Brown (1937 – 2009) was sold the co-founder and editor of Locus, the long-running news and reviews magazine covering the genres of science fiction and fantasy literature. This book was one of several lots purchased at auction.
