In the South our porches are an open welcome call to all who passby. The phrase, Y'all', is Cajun Creole for ‘you-all' and in this case “Y'all Home”? is askin', “are you-all home and do you want some company?”
A few blocks away from Jackson Square and the downtown life of the city are oak tree lined streets flanked by opulent homes known for their incredible iron work and custom architecture. The Garden District was once a number of plantations which where sold off in parcels to the wealthy who did not want to live in the French Quarter with the Creoles. This area, developed between 1832-1900, is considered one of the best-preserved collections of historic mansions in the South.
I paint in an impasto style using oil paint with palette/painting knives. Painting with palette knives allow a freedom I never enjoyed with brushes. I'm drawn to New Orleans cityscapes and Louisiana landscapes. I'm inspired by the vibrant vivid colors and heavy textures achieved with this three dimensional painting style. I enjoy capturing a view that I would enjoy spending a couple of hours in front of, taking in all the flavor of my surrounding.
This is a giclee created from my original impasto oil painting. All of my original paintings are painted in an impasto style (heavy texture) done in oil using palette knives. Giclee stretched over sold a .75" frame, using high quality archival inks and protected with a UV coating. Canvas wraps edge of frame and is back stapled. Image wraps around edge of canvas.
