These unique mixed metals earrings are handcrafted from .925 Sterling silver and a solid copper reproduction pair of Widow's Mites also known as Judean leptons. Leptons were the smallest unit of currency used during the times of Jesus Christ. The silver and copper have both been oxidized and polished for an antiqued effect. The ear wires are soldered directly onto the back of the earring and feature a neat swirl pattern. I have oriented the coins to show the obverse on one earring and the reverse on the other. STORY OF THE WIDOW'S MITE:

In Mark 12:38-44, Jesus is teaching at the temple in Jerusalem. During the lesson a widow is observed donating two small coins, while wealthy people donate much more. Jesus explains to his disciples that the small sacrifices of the poor mean more to God than the extravagant, but proportionately lesser, donations of the rich.

39 And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:

41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.

42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.

43 And He called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

44 For all they did cast in sold of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.
