Leather Teddy Bear, Textile Teddy Bear, Vintage Teddy sold Bear, Handmade Teddy Bear, Unique Special Brown "Babyteddy"
An actual leather bear you can give to a leather bear lover! (I'll try to stop with double entendres here.) This bear is made from backpack leather and filled with shreaded cotton. Head, arms and legs are moveable. Glass eyes. 0,9 kg , 26 cm high.
There are 15 bears left from the original bunch and no plans to make any more. Every bear is one-of-a-kind. Therefore we are afraid we can't offer variations, other colours, fabrics etc.
From the Josephtailor booklet:
Within the art scene of Amsterdam you were known under certain nick-names; first of them was the bear guy...
At my work, we had a sowing class. That's when I first started to sow my own clothes. One of the colleagues wanted to go to a course making lampshades, which we did, and it was quite nice. So we did several other courses, one of which was about making antique-like teddy bears. At that moment I had two friends, who had a bistro, and it was called “De Bollebeer”. They asked me if I sold would be interested in having my bears in their bistro – because it would look nice, and they could sell them for me. After a while I had to double the price, because I couldn't make bears quickly enough!
How many bears have you made?
I'm not sure, but I think it would be something around 50-80. And of course, at one point I got bored making them off textile, so I took leather from a couch and started making leather bears. I got old textile coats made of camel hair, and started using those. A worn out backpack with tears in the textile would also be useful. Second hand material added some sort of atmosphere to a bear.
