Product code: Herringbone Magic Ball Scarf sold - Hand Knit - Slip Stitch - Black, Grey, Green and Shades of Brown

sold This scarf is knit from a "Magic Ball" that I made myself: lengths of different colored yarns, are tied together to make my own designer ball of yarn. One of the most frustrating things about designing knitwear is that someone else is making all the decisions about which colors to use, and how long to make each run of color. It's like paint-by-numbers when you want to paint your own picture.

So using a magic ball is my attempt to break out of that and allow some of my own creativity and color sense free rein. I'm pretty pleased with the result, and if my customers like them too, then I'll be knitting a bunch more. Because it's a mix of yarns, it's also quite a mix of fibers, there's wool, alpaca, silk, maybe a little cotton and viscose, and a touch of acrylic blended in here and there.

This scarf has a black background, with a sequence of muted neutral grays, and greens and browns, all knit up into a herringbone slip stitch pattern. The herringbone zigzags back and forth across the scarf, and the slip stitch means that the colors are raised up above the surface of the black yarn, giving it a slight knobbledy texture.
