... my thoughts on shoes ♥
I adore vintage shoes and I adore comfortable feet and so I want to share 2 tips on how to make the most of your vintage shoe purchase: GEL INSERTS and NEW HEEL TAPS. gel inserts are worth it. for sure. a lot of times, with vintage shoes, the footpads begin to curl. they can dig into the bottom of your foot and then you have that awkward walk. is it a limp? a shuffle? well, it is definitely a drag. sometimes, you can take the curled up foot pad out, but then you feel every stitch, every nail, every pebble. this is why I put an insert in every shoe I wear, thin INSERTS, cushy inserts, ahhhh ... you have to keep your feet happy! find inserts you love, get some added arch support, a heel cush, some padding for those toes ... you will have a much better day because of it!
My second recommendation is having extra HEEL TAPS. old plastic heel taps can become brittle. one moment they are fine sold. the next, you step on a pebble, a subway grate, the side of a curb and ... it all falls apart. and then you hobble, uneven and uncomfortable, possibly doing damage to your shoe ... definitely to your day;(. extra heel taps are like spare tires, yeah. you never know when you'll need it, but you'll be awfully glad you have them!
And now we should talk about BOOTS. A lot of vintage boots were lined in bonded fabric, which tends to disintegrate over time. it is commonly referred to as "Devil Dust". it is unfortunate. what can be done? you can rip the lining out (I recommend doing it outside) ... it won't be pretty and you may end up with a sticky residue (argh!). you can take it to a cobbler and have them re-lined (could get pricey) or depending on the boot, there are "boot shaft liners" you can purchase (these tend to be bulky) ... the easiest way to deal with it is vacuuming the inside of the boots every now and then and keep them stuffed with newspaper when not in use. that is definitely my preferred method. it does not solve the problem 100%, but it is so much better.
and that's that. my suggestions are sound and inexpensive and readily available at your local pharmacy. and please read the description and condition very carefully, as I try my best to let you know of any issues that the shoes may have and please ask questions. i will do my best to help with questions about color, materials, fit (I am a size 10 so I am limited with my usefulness on smaller-feet-fit questions, though I do have some small footed friends I can pester here and there).
****** oh, and because of this, all shoes are sold as-is with NO RETURNS. You may exchange for a store credit, though the buyer is responsible for all shipping fees.
Thanks for reading and have a super ok day!
